There are a multitude of reasons why people become angry.

They may feel that there were missing elements in their childhood, or experienced trauma or abuse.

They may be fed up with arrogant, pretentious, overly opinionated, self-centred people who lack compassion and generosity of spirit. Or perhaps certain people’s actions have left them feeling betrayed – a partner, a parent, a child, an ex colleague, a boss, a sibling or an ex lover, or someone we considered to be a friend. It is those from whom we expected the greatest loyalty whose betrayal hurts the most.

Anger comes from hurt. Carrying an injustice for a lengthy period of time can eat away at your very soul, and can destroy any joy or beauty around you. The saddest thing is that we end up punishing ourselves and miss out on well-deserved happiness. Ultimately, it prevents us from getting the things we want: peace of mind, happiness and time to focus on the things that really matter.

Holding onto anger can feel like exaggerated, uncontrollable stress.
